When driving down the highway, the van lost power and died. When you turn the key, it clicks like a dead battery, but both battery and altenator have been checked and are good. Any other suggestions?

if it wont run how did you check the alternator? If you removed it you might as well remove the starter and have it tested also.

But does the starter explain why it would lose power and die when driving down the interstate? And yes, we took altenator off and had it checked at Auto Zone.

No it does not . But You say Batt and alternator have been tested ., And you have to get engine to crank over to get started so yiou can troubleshoot it . The starter is next logical step.
