1999 Chevy Yukon start up, shut right back off Sign In

I have a 1999 Yukon 5.7 flex-fuel system. It ran fine, have check engine light on, I pulled the positive cable off to clear it, while I cleaned it out, now it starts up for 2 seconds or so, shuts right back off, I dont have a fuel pressure guage, so I did a fuel pump, filter, and relay, due to no pressure out of the shrader valve, didnt seem as if pump was kickin on, but every other time by hearing it, and wined real back when it did, every so often, a bit stronger pressure then back to very little... would it be anything to do with security system(factory)?? Im open for ideas,,,help..

! You up and replaced a fuel pump for lack of getting a gauge! You've cleared important info by clearing codes which wasn't so swift either and by pos cable and not negCrazy

IDK - connections for fuel pump have been an issue and if you can't even hear it prime up guess I'd be looking for those. None OE fuel pumps have a high rate of failure but it probably wouldn't start at all if just that and non OE was used.

Try priming it thru throttle body and see if it will run longer. That would at least be an indication that it's a fuel issue or not. Get a dang $40 pressure tester and see if it can even hold. Put a spark tester on it and see if it loses spark when it quits. You lost valuable info by clearing codes on a non running engine and may not be able to get good info till it runs for a while again,

I know, was having a ruff day, the shop aint lookin to spend money in tools like we should,,grrr. Honestly,Ive never thought much about pos or neg, figured it would be like changing a battery? Anyhow, it does run longer primed the intake, and the spark looked weak, like orange fire vs blue? I was thinkin security something? IDK??

Do you have a security light on or flashing when you try to start it?

My bad as IDK much about the flex fuel especially in a 5.7 in 1999. Really - even Autozone sells a fuel pressure tester for about the $40 bucks I mentioned. They or others would have a spark tester too so you can see how far the spark can jump.

This stuff is NOT big bucks but tossing parts is at random. The parts replaced may not be as good as what you took out in some cases and this is now complicated.

In that it will run longer with priming it, it does suggest there's a fuel issue more than spark right now to chase down. Diagnosis starts with knowing fuel pressure and go on from there,

shovelhead; The shop aint looking to spend money in tools? Fuel pressure guage? What kind of 'shop' are we talkin' here? Blacksmith? Barber? Wink
We need to know what fuel pressure you have. These engines need at least 55psi to start. Spec is 60-66psi. Do you have spark during crank? Injector pulse?
Tell 'the powers to be' that if they intend on 'fixin' cars, they are going to have to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars on equipment. Otherwise, furriers are still in demand.
