I hooked my pathfinder up to a diagnostic reader because my check engine light came on. It gave me a reading of "small evap leak"! I tried replacing the gas cap and that did not fix the problem. what would cause this and is it dangerous to drive the vehicle?

I deleted your other question. There is no need to post duplicates.

The evap leak only matters if you have to pass an inspection. It's just an emissions control. You should get it resolved eventually just so you can put the check engine light out and you will know if something more serious goes wrong.

As HT mentioned the only real problem here would be passing inspection.....

a P0442 is a .020" evap leak......Very small and would be next to impossible for any fumes from such a small leak to enter the passenger compartment.....It would be more dangerous to be standing by a smoker.......Sly
