i have a 1998 chevy van that if it doesnt start on first turn of key it want start at all until u wait and try again about 20 min or more later.if it dont start on first initial start it will just turn over and over until batt. run down.it back fired one while trying to start it.its 4.3 vortex engine with 217,000 miles on it.codes showed map sensor problem.i replaced it but got same problem.engine run real good when running.oh check engine light is on,but codes only would bring up map sensor.

post the exact code number. There are multiple codes for the MAP sensor. Lets isolate which one we want. To find out why the engine will not start on the first try you will need to test it while the fault is occurring. You need a noid light on the injector to check for pulse, a spark tester to check for spark and a fuel pressure tester to show pressure. Please don't leave a generic reply like "fuel pressure ok" as thats up to us to decide. We need the results in their entirety as there is a lot of data there you may not know about but we do. Find out what you are missing and we can chase down the culprit from there.
