It only has water in it right now, we wanted to see the thermostat kick in. The thermostat did not open as far as we can tell.We don't know how long it should take, we did replace the thermostat first. Went for a short ride (3 mi.) and came back and the radiator started overheating. The temperature gauge seems to work but it is not getting over half way.
