1998 2500 savana making squealling noise

1998 gmc savana 2500 305 engine noise sound like its coming from alternator volt meter drops when squealling start check alt said it was good

Can be the alternator anyway but not just yet. Is belt tension tight enough and tensioner within range? Should have a mark for area it can self adjust. Plain belt loose would do this. That or a very strong drain of power or perhaps something is wetting the belt (coolant?) allowing it to slip?
