I have a 1997 pontiac sunfire. It starts and runs fine when it is below -15 degrees c but when it gets warmer outside it starts, then sputters and stalls. I have tried gas line antifreeze did not work. wondering if it is the fuel filter.

I'd toss a fuel filter if you are even thinking about it. That's good preventative maintenance anyway plus rules it out but that probably isn't the up front problem.

There's a coolant temp sensor AKA Engine temp sensor up near thermostat the tells the puter that the engine is cold and to deliver fuel accordingly. They are somewhat common BOTH the sensor and the wiring plug to it and both available.

Sounds like your system is constantly delivering fuel based on being colder than it really is as it warms up. You can test the thing and decide if it's ok or perhaps if the plug doesn't look good go ahead and solder in a new connector. This is the common one for that vehicle - you didn't state which engine but same idea....
Fig. 5: Measure the resistance across the ECT terminals on the sensor Fig. 6: ECT sensor resistance value chart ******************** I'd focus on this for now. Don't wait forever to figure it out if not this as if it's flooding out engine all the time it's real hard on plugs and worse - the 02 sensors and converters, T

The resistance is where it should be on the chart. It runs fine even after it warms up on cold days. when it acts up it seems to be getting no fuel. It will idle but when you touch the gas it will stall. It will start again in a few minutes and stall again. Only on warmer days.

Then id check fuel pressure WHEN it's acting up especially.

Are there any codes (SES on) or get it read anyway as there may be info there waiting to trigger the light,

T

I took the car in and they said it was giving theft deterant system codes. Could this be the cause?
