1997 sebring jxi timing belt Sign In

My timiing belt broke while I was driving. My boyfriend towed car home we relpaced timing belt. The car starts and runs but idles very rough! When he tried to drive slow down the driveway the car will stall. If we hit the gas the car takes off very fast. We tore it back down checked the timing marks and replace all gaskets. Checked vaccuum hoses. My car is a chrystler sebring convertable JXI 2.5 litter. The odometer stopped work around 180,000 but that was two years ago.We have rebuilt the tranny and put a new top on and have bought the new ball jionts and control arms but have not replaced them yet. He just replaced the thermostat about 3 months ago. Any suggestions?

You can pretty much bet that you bent valves when the timing belt broke. This is an interference engine and rarely survives a running belt failure.

Does that mean I need a new engine completely? He said he can hand crank it.

They still need to do some testing to confirm that or that the belt is even installed correctly. You could have the heads rebuilt but a new engine may be cheaper.

The check engine light is problably on due to the miss.....Pull the code and check compression on that cyl.
