1997 lesabre spike oil pressure Sign In

I have had a slight oil leak in my driveway for about a month and can't find the cause. Yesterday I noticed my check engine light on. I restarted the car an hour later and the light was off. While driving today, with no engine light on, I heard a loud boom in the back. (I thought the back tire popped) and immediately my oil pressure gauge spiked. the gauge has Never moved until today. First, the gauge spiked while driving and lowered when braking. Now, it remains high. Almost at 100 instead of the 30ish. What could cause this problem?

Does the gauge go to zero when you turn the ignition off?

Have you checked the oil level in the engine?

Usually when you hear a boom just as the gauge spikes, your swollen oil filter is laying on the road behind you along with a trail of oil.

Did you run over something? If so, maybe the sender or wiring was damaged?

If the oil filter and sensor/wiring looks normal under there and your oil level is good, someone should confirm the gauge reading by screwing a pressure gauge into the oil sender hole.

They should also figure out where the oil leak is when they have the car on the lift.

You should also have the computer scanned to see what trouble code(s) it is storing.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

The gauge stays high when I turn the ignition off and only goes to zero when I turn the ignition to battery. Once I start the car, the gauge returns to high.
The oil level in the engine is full.
My oil filter is still in the car and not on the road. I will replace the filter this afternoon.
I did not run anything over
I will also purchase a pressure gauge and confirm the reading is true.
Thank you, I will post the progress
