I have a 1997 chevy ck1500 5.7 vortec that idles too fast. The idle will go up to 1200-1300 and then slowly settle down to about 800-900. When i stop, the truck will want to push me through the stop. If i slow and go, the idle stays high, and I take off like a rabbit. If i stop and wait about 10 seconds or more, I will slowly accelerate, because the idle has dropped down. The repair guys have looked at it, checked/replaced the choke control, looked for vaccum leaks. It was recently tuned and has previously run very well. The only code is "rich/lean condition detected in cylinder 8. My gas milage has remained the same and the truck runs fine at speed. They speculate that it might be a leaking intake manifold gasket. Can this be correct?. It is kind of a big repair on a thought and would like to know if someone else has an answer to confirm thanks

What is the exact code number being set because there is no such thing as a rich/lean on cylinder 8? They say there are no vacuum leaks yet they say it may have a manifold leak. Which is it? A vacuum leak would be the most likely cause in this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
