1997 chevy 2500 van- ign coil	Sign In

i have a 1997 g2500 3/4 ton van with 4.3l v6 engine and 90,000 miles that eats ignition coils . especially if i let it sit for a day or two and its rainy. last coil lasted for about 3 weeks. any idea what could cause this?

In what way are they failing?

Are they getting wet?

Not getting wet. just sending spark through the side inta a pipe instead of through coil wire. tried insulating the pipe but it just finds another path.

Replace the set of ignition wires.

I guess first, I would check to see that the engine is properly grounded to the chassis and frame. Electricity will find the least path of resisitance of course. Strange problem, because if the distributor,engine etc, is grounded porperly, the charge should not escape the wire shielding or the boot ? Also make sure the coil is grounded well, meaning the mounting bracket.
