1997 Ford taurus starts on its own

My 97 Ford taurus starts on its own, whether the keys in the ignition or not. I can be driving down the road, and it tries to "turn over". it can be parked for hours, even overnight, and it will just start trying to turn over. Now today it won't start at all. Any ideas?

sounds like your starter went bad, probably destroyed your starter gear and in the process ran your battery down. check out the starter to see if its okay, if its not damaged you need to figure out why it is constantly trying to turn the engine over.
