1997 F150 Engine pinging Sign In

My 1997 Ford F150 has been pinging when I accelerate or go up a hill. A couple of months ago it was doing this and my mechanic replaced an O2 sensor, fuel filter and after replacing the barometric pressure switch it stopped. Now for the past few weeks it's doing it again. He replaced my EGR valve on Friday and it's still doing it. He check for vacuum leaks and the only one he found was the EGR valve. The check engine light is on. He put a code reader on it but he stated his code reader doesn't pin point the problem, just that the truck is leaning out. My truck has a 4.6 with 95,000 miles. Now on top of the pinging my truck is making a ticking noise. Can any one offer some suggestion on what could be causing this?

Try to get that code read even for free at some places like AutoZone. It may not pinpoint the problem but it would help at least for the general direction. This could still be a few different things and would really benefit you to fix as pinging can in time destroy an engine, T

Bank 2 is the drivers side. You stated it started making a ticking noise. Have the exhaust checked for a leak. We have had exhaust studs break off and cause a lean condition. The code indicates only one side has a problem, so I would look just at the one side.
