1997 Chevy Blazer

Hello,
I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer just replaced the spider and injectors,new plugs and new plug wires,new catalytic converter. New air filter,rotor button and rotor. new vacuum hoses.And it runs good no missing but at the speeds of 50-60 it surges up and down very sharply. Any ideas on the problem. Thank daystar554

Try taking it out of O/D and see if that has any effect on the surge.........

I just went and drove the blazer first in the D and then in the D with a circle around it. It made no difference.

Is it a transmission surge or an engine surge? I have seen many of these transmissions bang on the highway when the torque converter clutch releases and engages. Feels like the vehicle may launch off the highway. Is this what you are feeling?

It is not like that it is a slow surge foward then relax kind of thing, almost like a pull on something and then a realease.
I don't quit know how to tell you but the transmission seems fine. Thanks to all who respond

You may have an EGR valve problem or a MAF sensor problem. Really hard to tell without physically taking it for a ride.

Hi,
And thank you again. We have changed the MAF sensor and cleaned the EGR valve. We did this back when we put a new spider and injectors on. We will try a new EGR valve and a new fuel filter today.

Daystar, I have found 2 points of interest with your vehicle. One is a recall in which GM used the wrong linear EGR valve on some 4.3 liter engines. You would have to call a GM dealer and give them your VIN number to see if yours is one of them, providing you haven't replaced it already.
I have also found a Technical Service Bulletin close to the description of the problem you are encountering. GM has an updated PCM flash calibration that has supposedly corrected this. Again, you would need to go to the dealer to see if your vehicle would be affected. Good luck and let us know how this turns out.
