1996 Dodge Neon 2.0 litter single overhead cam, replaced timing belt, set timing, turns over, but wont start. I have fire to all 4 plugs. Good starter and battery. Fuel pump running and fuel flowing. Clutch all the way down and shifter out of gear. I find no vacume leak of any kind. Starter spins when I turn the ignition. Occasionally it almost tries to start and never does. Twice it back fired. Both timing marks are clear and easy to locate. Please help me.

prior to this work, how did this car run? Have you verified injector pulses with a noid light? Also, what shape are the plugs in? Is the check engine light on and if so what codes are present?

The lady that I am trying to fix it for drove it to NC from GA, so I assume that it was running good, as she is older and would not have chanced it otherwise. The plugs are in good shape. The check engine light is not on. I don't have access to a noid light.
