1996 lincoln towncar check engine light

96 lincoln 4.7 fuel injected signature series towncar, engine stalled 1 time 2 consecutive days at nighttime only then check engine light came on. All this occurred after vehicle was bumped by another car in a parking lot(don't know if that is relevant).what are repair remedy possibilities,can I continue driving car,please approximate repair cost. If getting bumped led to this condition I have other persons info. Vehicle has been very well maintained oil,filters etc.currently has 121000 miles.and otherwise is immaculate.

The only thing associated with the bump would be the fuel pump Inertia switch in the truck but I've never seen one act that way. Go into the trunk and check it anyway. Push the red button on the top down.
