Hi everyone. My 96 eagle vision 3.5 liter blew the engine contoller 20 amp fuse when I tried to start it. I replaced fuse, now it doesn,t blow but I have no check engine lite, codes, ignition, fuel. I disconnected the cam sensor and cranked over engine and no code came up. I have changed the auto shutdown relay, transmission controller, ign. module, cam sensor. I have 12vdc and ground to pcu connector. I checked sensor ground to cam sensor and it was good but after cranking engine, ground was not good. I have 4.27 vdc at cam sensor. Any ideas anyone? Thanks for any help. Jim

Well Jim....I have to say it doesn't look good.... How are you pulling codes? Is your scan tool able to see data? If so what kind of reading are the sensors showing??? I'm a little confused on what you mean with the ground issue..... I'll try to find a diagram for this system but most of those sensors are 3 wire. Ref voltage which should be 5v, signal & ground. A lot of those Chrys will run 4.95v bias voltage down the signal wire to check ref voltage with the key on.....That 4.27 reading is odd

Sidom, Thanks for your reply. I used a obd2 scann tool and it says no codes available. When turning keyswitch to on position the check engine lite briefly illuminates. I tried the 3 time turning the keyswitch method and there also was no codes. Check engine lite does not come on when keyswitch is left in the run position. I measured cam sensor volts with battery ground post and cam sensor ground wire before cranking engine over. After cranking engine over I tried to remeasure the voltage and there is no 4.27 volts using the sensor ground, but it is at 4.27volts using battery ground post. I can measure volts using sensor ground again after waiting about 30 minutes. I have also swapped pcm out with another used one I had, that car was running on when last used. Same problem using this pcm.

I wasn't able to pull any diagrams up on this so I can give you some basic things to look for..... You said you swapped PCMs & you wouldn't think that 2 of them would have the exact same problem.....Hopefully you don't have a short somewhere that took out the other pcm... The check engine light should come on & stay on with the key on & engine off. Also it sounds like you've lost everything else the pcm is controlling so either you have 2 bad pcms or something, somewhere that is pulling it down.... For a few years Chrys went to 8v ref on the cmp & ckp and 5v ref for the other sensors and then later on switched to dual 5v refs lines for everything.... I've ran in to some that the cmp would short out & pull the 8v down to 5v so without checking, it would look normal..... That reading your getting of 4.27v is way off......it should be either 5.00 or 8.00... If you have a manual, find out which wire is the reference voltage wire for both the cam & crank sensors......disconnect both of them and see what the reading is.. You could also try disconnecting the other sensors and see if you can get your check engine light to come on & stay on..... If the PCms are good, then it sounds like you have a short somewhere taking out the pcm when the key is turned on....

Sidom, I had just disconnected the crank sensor with the cam sensor and same problem. I will disconnect all other 5 vdc sensors and check for open/shorted wires. No fuses are blown inside or on fuseblock on left front fender apron. If I can find nothing I will leave all sensors disconnected and replace pcm with used yard one and see if check engine lite will come on. Will let you know how it works out by next weekend. Thanks, Jim

Maybe one of the guys can post a wiring diagram & a pcm connector pinout for you to follow. You want to find out which wire is for the ref v and then check it with while it's disconnected with the key on. The more I think about it, I'm pretty sure this one uses an 8v ref for the cmp & ckt sensors & 5v for the other ones..... If the ref v is zero or really low and doesn't come back when the sensor is disconnected, then you need to remove that wire from the pcm connecter, plug the connecter back in and see what the reading is....If the ref v comes back to the correct reading,,,,which would be 8v in this case,,,,then there is a short in the wiring somewhere pulling the voltage down.....If the reading is still low or zero....then the pcm is bad... You would want to test the powers, grounds & ref wires for shorts to power or ground before plugging in the new pcm......If there was a short that took out the old one,,,,,then you will take out the new one when you turn on the car....
