Is this a 1.6 or a 1.8 engine? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Intake Air Temp sensor. It's just a sensor to unplug, probably in the intake snorkal.

Hey Hammer, is the starter itself the same for 1.6 or 1.8? My VIN # has a B which is the 1.8 correct? And there is a lot of interference ie..heater hoses, wires, making it a pain in the kazoo to get to. Any tricks? I thought it should be easy to get from the top but looks like best bet is underneath. Believe me, that car has lots of room compared to the stuff we see these days. The only real trick might be to use an 8 to 10" extension to reach the back bolt behind the starter from below.

Had a chance to work on starter today and got it disconnected and now my dilemma, I can't get it out through top or bottom! No room. What am I missing. Can someone tell me how and where to remove the starter from the engine bay. Thanks, Randy Randy

If you remove the intake snorkel, it should come out the top. Most of them will come out the bottom also.

Snorkel removed in beginning, may have to be forced somehow. I thought bottom also and I'll be danged there is not room unless you remove your exhaust system. There are 2 hoses that run from block through firewall that appear to heater hoses maybe. I removed one from block side and oil started pouring out. What hose is that? There are 2 togethere and both run through firewall and one has an actuator on it that looks like temp control. Maybr the oil is just system lube oil, I don't know but it freaked me out and I replaced ASAP. Any IDEAS?? Thanks Randy

If it's one of the two going into the firewall, it has to be a heater hose. Remember, Toyota factory coolant is red.
