1996 Lincoln Town Car - Check Engine Light /4.6/130,000 miles

Car was 119,000 miles when we bought it, and the air conditioning didn't work. Shortly after, the power windows stopped working, and the "Check Engine" light came on (yellow). We ignored it for a while because the car runs very smoothly - no rattling, grinding, etc.

After the next couple of weeks, while getting the oil changed it was suggested that we get the belt changed, so we did, and subsequently had to replace the tension pulley and another pulley (don't remember what its called). We decided to have the "Check Engine" problem looked into and was told after running a disgostics test to have the EGR valve changed, so we did. In fact, we had the EGR valve, and the EGR sensor changed, (light went off, then came on again after 1-2 weeks) We then had the pathway cleaned, as well as the the upper ball joints changed (car was squeaking soemthing awful). The engine light goes off, then comes back on after 2-3 weeks of driving it. Mind you, if I drive it (female) after light going off, it's fine - when myhusband drives it (he drives a little more aggresively) it comes back on.

We took it to auto zone and a gentleman cleaned off some gunk around something attached to the battery and it went off. Again, after couple days, came back on. It still runs and sounds smooth. What do you think?

Nobody has fixed the actual problem. They keep erasing the code and it keeps coming back.
What was the exact code number and what were the parts they changed? The sensor you referred to is what I'm curious about because there is really nothing in the EGR system called a sensor.
