1995 Tahoe no power to engine but to radio ect.. Sign In

My 4WD '8 Banger' 1995 Chevy Tahoe (300,000 miles) died 4 days ago while driving home. On the interstate the engine just died. The Radio and Headlamps worked but when I put the key in the ignition and turn it nothing happens at all. The lights on the dash board do not come on and the starter never turns the engine over. It is like turning the key in a truck with no battery. The headlamps work and the radio works after I release the key from the "start-up" position. I checked all the fuses both in the truck and under the hood. I took it to a mechanic who said they had fixed it but when I drove it home and tried to go to work the next day same thing. The mechanic towed it to their shop again and said they had fixed it again and said it was the ground from the battery that caused it to stop. After driving it for 2 days it stopped working. Same problem.

Battery was Load tested
Alternator was tested and is working
Solenoid was tested and ruled out

A point in the right direction is I am looking for.

If all of the cabling is good, the fuses and relays are good, you may want to investigate the ignition switch and its related circuits.

Sorry, must of thought I finished the reply. I have no Idea what the shop did to get it running before. I assume they messed it with it enough as to give a big enough hit to the steering column to "un-short" the circuit?!? Blush My calls have gone unanswered of of today.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere....

Steve has a pretty good suggestion where to start with the ign sw......That is a problem area on some of those.
