Ok maybe some of you might have some ideas on what I should try next. Well I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX 1.9 Over the past month or so I have been having some problems while driving. Everything can be going great and than all of a sudden the car starts to shudder, check light flashes every studder as if its losing power or fuel or something. I can go a few days without any problems and than it just all of a sudden hits. I have noticed if I have to make a U-turn it really happens as if it loses all fuel all together and almost stalls out. Few times it has happened the car continued to run, slam the gas pedal but it wouldn't accelerate.

I have done the basics imo. I have changed the plugs, wires, air filter, pcv, and fuel filter. I even changed my oil lol. I also dropped my fuel tank to check all the lines and pulled out the fuel pump to check the fuel its self and see if the sock was clogged up. Nothing noticeably strange, sock was clean a bit of water, but I drained the tank entirely and filled it completely with 93 octane fuel.

I tried to see what codes I could get out of the computer by usiing the paper clip trick but I couldn't get the check light to blink to give me any codes.......I have checked every hose that I could possibly see, all of them look in decent shape, nothing to bad. I have also pulled the MAF sensor and used the cleaner stuff for that also. I do smoke a bit when I sit at a light and than accelerate, its a big puff of white smoke. Someone told me to try changing the HEGO sensor but I thought when that fails you usually puff out black smoke.

I'm pretty stumped here. Most of my friends can't think of anything else to check. I would rather attempt a few more things if anyone has any ideas instead of taking it into a garage.

Thanks

Check the crank sensor and the wiring going to it. Click here and it shows how to get the codes.

Re: 1995 Ford Escort LX Sign In

i'm going to try to answer this. i'm not a professional but i did stay at a "holiday inn" last night.
only kidding
i had a 94 escort and changed motors and had to pull the motor and trans out 4 times because junk yard stiffed me.
i had the same problem with my 1.9 motor
go to the long metal tube where the PCV is.
there is a piece of rubber thats going to look like a spark plug 90o angle.
feel if it is soft
then have someone start the motor and give it RPM's not to much maybe 2500-300 rpm's
watch that rubber piece of angle and see if it is pinching itself shut in the middle
i don't know any other way to decribe this so i hope you understand
if the rubber piece is pinching itself....then
get a old or new spark plug wire that has the 90o angle
pull the wire out of it....of coarse
and replace it on your car
see if that helps
whats happening is the vaccuum is so powerfull it is wearing it out
this happened to me and it took me a month before i stumbled my eyes on it
hope i helped...let me know

Re: 1995 Ford Escort LX Sign In

thanks for the suggestions..as it turned out was a loose wire. changed my clutch master about a month or so ago when this all started to happen shortly afterwards. guess i didn't tighten everything down when i put the battery back in lol. just happen to have problems coming home from work again pulled into driveway and popped the hood. went over every hose etc again. went to do a code check on computer again and noticed the car started to bog down when i grabbed the connection, and than noticed some sparking at the battery. grabbed the wire and wiggled it and the car died. took it apart, fixed up the wire connections hooked back up, TIGHTENED it all up and so far so good, and its been about 3 days so far.

just wanted to drop the update. thanks again for the ideas
