1995 Chevrolet Berretta Timing Issues

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Berretta with a 2.2 engine.
The timing chain tensioner broke. It bent the valves. I checked the pistons for cracks or holes and found none. I bought a new head and installed it. Installed timing chain on the marks. I got one backfire and now the engine will not crank on turnover.
Does a crank shaft position sensor kill all the fire or will it still have some fire?
I have exhausted my options. Help.
