I have a 1994 Mercury cougar 3.8l . I have replaced the thickfilm ignition module. The MAF.and plugs wires rotor and caps. But it stalls. And will not run. it will turn over but doesnt seems to get gas. pump works. It whirrs like normal when the keys is turned replaced the filter. But it might start in ten minutes or or a half hour or an hour it will idle for ever but once its driven it will stall but no telling when. I can drive the car it will just shut off. Disconnect the MAF it mmight start. Disconnect the battery wait ten it will start sometimes. somes it migth be an hour or before it starts.

It started running odd a year ago when I would drive down through a valley(summer time) and the air was decidedly cooler it would run bad, press the gas it would bog down let off the gas it would take off(replaced the MAf seemed to solved that.).

Just a thought...

I have seen some that have a faulty camshaft position sensor (hall effect switch)....inside the distributor that can cause this type of concern.
Also could have a faulty crankshaft position sensor.

A bad throttle position sensor , water in the gas, even a speed sensor that and what Jim stated. I would start with having the trouble codes read if the check engine light came on, could save time and money Unsure
