Hello all,

I have a 1994 mitsubishi diamante ls 3.0 liter v6 with 180,000 miles and I really love this car. It has been smoking for a couple of months now and I have not really been minding it until it gotton worse. I actually got pulled over by police because of the amount of smoke. I have been investigating into the concern and I cannot understand why it is smoking. I heard all that about if it is white smoke = antifreeze= head gasket, blue smoke=oil leak=valve seals or compression rings rings, and black smoke = rich burning. But it seems that when ever I try to pinpoint exactly why it is smoking, a symtom does not add up. Smoke color is not blueish but actually grayish. I also do not seem to be burning any oil at all.Upon first starting in morning, I get no smoke at all.Smoke does not happen until i am idling at operating temperature. Also, smoke does not happen when I step on the gas but rather only when I am not giving it gas.(Sitting at red light I get smoke but when i take off from red light smoke starts to fade away.) Smoke does not smell sweet.Already changed head gaskets. Level of antifreeze has not moved. Before i make a time consumeing repair, i need to know the reason why it smokes. Please help me out,

jojo; Are you missing any transmission fluid? Not sure if this vehicle uses a vacuum modulator; Could be burning trans. fluid, which could account for the odd colored smoke? Does the smoke have any smell to it? Grey is an odd color, though. And, if it's enough to get pulled over, something has to be going on. Valve guide seals leaking will generally present themselves on deceleration and on initial start up. Rings, generally, will be present most of the time, idle, accel, ect. Head gasket would be all of the time once at temperature. Doesn't leave much to guess?
