My 1994 Toyota Camry 4 cyl 80000 mi would not start today. I had been low on gas & thought perhaps it was empty. I put almost 3 gallons of gas in but it still won't start. A friend looked at it & he said it may be the fuel pump. Does anyone have any ideas?

Check for spark at a plug wire, check for fuel delivery. You can check for fuel by disconnecting the fuel filter and watching for fuel flow while an asst. cranks the engine. CAUTION: Be very sure there are no ignition sources while doing this test. At 80K, it could also be the cam belt. Let us know what you find.

It happened out of no where- parked it at work after going to lunch. 3 hours later it would not start. There has been no sign of trouble previous except that I needed gas.

I'm at home, so I don't have access to repair information. I think it's under the hood on the left fenderwell. You can locate it by following the fuel line back from where it attaches to the fuel rail.

If you can see the cam through the oil fill hole, have an asst. crank the engine while observing cam for rotation. This will tell you if belt is stripped.

Problem was the ignition coil - replaced & everything seems fine.

Mounts on the left fender well beside the airfilter box.
