My Cougar has Engine Problems, I can't figure it out and neither can a former mechanic, The engine shakes really bad, it makes a tractor noise too, but thats from the exhaust i know that, anyways, we have tested the piston compression all of them come out normal except one, we have replaced the distributor and cap, that didn't help, we replaced spark plug wired, spark plugs, and thats not it either. We believe a valve is left open, but we dont know how to access that.. anyone know?
Also, when i accelerate, it takes a long time, I could put the gas petal to the floor and it stays the same, slowly accelerates or just revs up the engine, its almost like my fuel injectors are dirty, i put in injector cleaner, that didn't help, i replaced the fuel filter and that didn't help either. When i do get up to speed i have to let off the gas a lil and the tranny makes a clunk and jerks the car.. Its not really loud its enough to hear and feel.. Anyone have any ideas of what i could do to improve the motor and my speed?

How bad was the compression on the lowest cylinder?? If the cylinder isn't helping it can feel like you lost two, T

It was off by 20 i believe, it was still getting some compression but not a lot, not the same as all the others

I don't think that's off enough to cause wild symtoms. Try a vacuum test and watch the needle as that can be telling. This could be a weak valve spring and you would still get compression at cranking speed then it would feel like a plug wire was left off. Hard to diagnose but it happened to me. After lots of hair loss I found it, T

Now if it is a spring or a vavle, is there instructions you can give me so i can find it and fix the prob?
Also do you have a solution about my acceleration prob. you think its from my engine being Sh!tty?

You should take the spark plug out of the weaker cylinder and compare it to another. From there you could get some info on where to go next. Replacing a valve spring if found broken isn't real simple. They are held in by two little keys and if it falls you can get in trouble!!
It could also be a valve problem or something else?? The mentioned vacuum test would help. A valve or valve spring is tricky to diagnos as said. Spring can look good and not be?? Keep at it, T

Well ill talk to the guy that is helping me with my car and see what we can do, i am suppose to wait until i can get a repair manual but they are soo expensive and i dont see this happening until the near future when i can get money.. so thank you very much, ill be posting more questions if i have any!!!
