1991 dodge dakota and a cold starting problem Sign In

this winter my dodge has been giving me some trouble. a few weeks ago on a very cold morning i couldnt start my car. the starter was running but the engine would not catch. applying gas didnt help and i was also unable to compression start it. then the next day when i came back to figure something out it just started up perfectly. it has been running flawlesly since then. until a couple of days ago. a cold day and the same thing happened. then i waited 3 min and tried again. another 3 or so minutes and it started right up. ran great for a couple days then again it wouldnt start. and now it is fine. i have checked the distributer cap and it is in really good condition. i work at a mountain resort so my truck problem is kind of a big deal. can anyone give me any tips on what to check? or anything? i dont know that much about cars so i appreciate advise i can get.

thanks
martin

If it seems to be temperature related, check the temperature sensor. I have seen Chryslers not start below 30 degrees because of the sensor reading improperly.

what would i be checking it for? just to see if it is damaged at all? ive been looking through my dodge repair manual, and the only temperature related sensor i can find is the "coolant temperature sensor" , is that the sensor that you are refering to?

To find the right sensor the brain dead way I use Smile is to get the new one and look right near the thermostat where it should be and replace that one. Testing out and old one is really not worth the time, T

well i have changed the sensor. a couple of stripped screw heads complicated it some, but now it has a new coolant temperature sensor. i dont know if i fixed the cold starting problem, but i know that at least i didnt break my truck anymore than. thanks a lot guys.
