4.3L z engine. 1991 Chevrolet S-10 p/u
new distributor with pickup coil and module, new ignition coil, new wires, plugs, cap, rotor, MAP sensor. Engine is properly timed. For some reason this engine will still not run. I can get it to partially start and run for roughly a fraction of a second and thats it. 4 mechanics i had even come to my house are stumped. Its getting gas. Each cylinder is getting spark. The coil is good. Compression in every cylinder. However i noticed it seems like theres some gas in the oil when i pulled the dip stick? I disconnected the exhaust even thinking maybe some animal got inside. The engine once in a blue moon (and i do mean a blue moon) will start however but has a very rough idle.
Can anybody diagnose or lead me in the right direction? thanks

You may have a faulty ECT sensor or wiring to it. If you can get a scan tool you can look at the data stream to see what the coolant temp is. If it is showing
-40* then the computer is dumping the fuel into the cylinders causing it to flood.
The first thing you should do is hook up a fuel pressure guage, double check spark at the plugs, and install a noid light into the fuel injector harness. Crank the engine and see if all of these systems are working properly first. Post back with the results so we can go further. I also need the fuel pressure in psi to rule out the fuel pump.

Just an out there thought as to a maybe with this: Spark plugs hate being flooded and do NOT air dry very well. They can look dry and still the spark will follow the porcelain and not fire out of your sight.

Best fix for that is replacing the plugs and leaving them all out for a while - mark where they went (wires) to save hair loss later.

If that works or anything you find works I suggest taking it for a good ride and let it all clear out of the exhaust and converters if they are fairly ok they should handle this but it is hard on them, T

Well the motor is getting gas for sure. Its spraying the typical cone style spray. Now my question is, will a regular OBD2 scanner (the orange one at advance autoparts) be able to pick this up?

Scanner will not pick up on wet (even though appearing dry) spark plugs. Car will through a code by simply not running well, T

Does it run great if you spray starting fluid in the Throttle body?

I had the same problem, with no codes. It ran great if I supplied gas or stater fluid I pulled the fuel line off and it worked fine, but I did not check fuel pressure.
When I unplugged the temp sensor on the front of the engine, it ran at a crazy high idle.
Well, it turns out it was a 2 inch hose, inside the fuel tank was split. It went from the fuel pump to the housing. When the pump began to build up pressure, the line opened up and shot fuel BACK into the tank.
That caused the throttle body to starve for fuel, thus running like crap, then running great, then running like crap again.
It was a 1 dollar fix, but i had to drop the tank to access the pump.
