A few weeks ago my wifes cav started dieing at stop signs and having rough starts. My friend and I replaced the coil packs and it ran great for a week or so. The other day my wife came home for lunch and the car wouldn't start when she got in to go back to work. After looking it over I noticed that the injector would quit shooting gas at roughly mid throttle. I replaced the fuel pump relay and it seems to start and run fine, but it's making a popping noise from the exhaust after I rev the engine and let off the gas. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be. I'm not totally sure that the relay actually fixed the problem, since it's been so sporadic anyway, but I let it idle for a good 15-20 minutes before I started giving it gas and it didn't die like it did before I replaced the relay. Thanks for your time. Edit: I've also replaced the plugs and wires.

The car ran fine for a few days, but once again died on my wife while she was coming home for lunch. I'm going to check the timing tomorrow, and I had suggested to me that the crank position sensor (i think that's what he said) or the ignition module could be bad. Does anyone here have any suggestions at all? I'm kind of desperate to get this fixed and can't really afford to put the car in a shop unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks

Unfortunately the only way to diagnose the problem is to check it out while the vehicle is not starting. You will need to check fuel pressure, spark at plugs, and injector pulse. When it dies and won't start: If it has fuel pressure and no spark, but the injector is firing, replace the ignition module. If the fuel pressure is ok and has both no spark and no injector pulse, suspect the crank sensor. If it has spark and injector pulse, but no fuel pressure, check the fuel pump, fuse, wiring, relay, or fuel pump signal from PCM. Steve

Steve, Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try to get the car in non-running condition (never thought I'd type that) tomorrow after I get done replacing the half-shaft in my blazer and see what I can come up with. Thanks again Terry
