i have a 1990 eclipse GST front wheel turbo, 4 cyl 2.0. i am having problems starting it in weather that gets below 45 degrees. when i try to start it, whithin three shorts turns of the key the engine floods itself out. when i actually do get it started (mind you in a temp controlled garage) it idles at very high speeds. i had to turn the idle adjustment all the way down just to get it too idle at a normal 1200 rmp. ive tried many things including changing the fuel filter, replacing all gasket in the engine, new plugs and wires, completely redone vacuum system and new fuel injector o-rings and seals. im about to loose my job and would love a running car so i can open my possibilities for jobs outside of my hometown. I hope for a quick response and lots of help.

much appreciated,
Doug

Is this motor completely stock? (no Mods at all)
What's the condition of the ignition components?
What is the compression of all cylinders?

the only thing aftermarket is my bypass valve. and the engine has 126xxx on it. and i do not have the resources to check compression. i will look around and see if i can get the equipment to do so and i will let you know what my compression looks like. please feel free to start naming off everything so i have a list of things i can check.

thank you for the help,
Doug

If you aren't able to test basic things like compression, then it's time to pay someone else to diagnose the problem for you.

right now i can only afford to find the parts and do it my self, finding the equipment to test such things should not be the problem. i just need to know where to start

Do you really think we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in tools and test equipment just because we like to? We buy it because we have to to do our job and you come on here and think you are just going to pull a diagnosis out of a hat without spending a nickel.
Knowledge alone isn't going to find your problem.

That wasn't sarcasm............... That was fact.

ive brought this car out of the grave spending a little more then 300 on it. quite frankly i havnt had to use one piece of diagnostic equipment on it, just having the little knowledge i have on this car. i was simply looking for possibilities. i have had many opinions on what to look for and one of them being yes, put it on a computer. ive simply been looking for possibilities. ideas and many of them. i dont mind that it seems completely ridiculous to just hand me all these possibilities, i have all the time in the world to go down that list and check them off till i find the problem. if you the only thing you can tell me to do is to take it in then i will look to somone else.

Thank you,
Doug

I would recommend DJHughes. He's most certainly the expert you've been looking for.
