Hey, does anybody else know about the expected mileage on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis? I've had it for about 6 months now and it's kind of unbelievable but it's getting 19.9 miles per gallon! The oil stays clean throughout it's regular change cycle. Still clear! She runs great. No real problems and not trying to show off. It just seems impossible for an 8 cyl. boat. Was this the claim when they were sold? Cindy in Silverton via the Oregon Coast

Cindy; It's not unusual at all to get 20mpg out of a 'road car'. They are geared for cruising. Heck, I get 20mpg out of my Dodge Hemi pickup (4X4) on the highway. Had a full sized Dodge S/W, 383 that would get 21 mpg on the road. And that was before fuel injection and computers! Loren SW Washington

Those are all mostly indications that you have a very well maintained, low mileage vehicle. That one's a keeper so be sure to continue keeping up with the maintenance. It should be a reliable car for years to come. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Cindy -not unusual at all. I've owned many. Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Town Cars are not real pigs as the size would suggest. I can expect over 20 on the highway and regularly get 25 if moderate about speed on hwy and no traffics snarls to mess it up. The next generation engine did just a tad better in same vehicles! They can also do 10 MPG just poking around with many stops and short runs but a gallon to go ten miles for 10 stops and have room for the junk you got is still a bargain, T
