I would start off with a compression test and looking at the plugs real close while you have them out, noting which plug came out of which cyl. Gotta know how hard it overheated as he asked. Am I reading right that it did start at first and now doesn't but does crank? If the case need to know if there's spark at all. Tough dang engine. Lesser stuff it would mean big trouble but you might get lucky. Hard crank right now could just be oil got real sticky and would self correct with it running, mechanically not damaged, and new oil - synthetic please if it isn't already a lost cause. Need more info to proceed.
