i have a 1989 accord lxi fuel inj. with 130000mi. the idle started fluctuating from 700-1600 rpm when the engine is warm and has been driven a while, sometimes i can get it to stop by reving the engine. i cleaned the iacv with brake cleaner but do not know if that fixed the problem because it is intermittent. after cleaning the iacv it seemed to idle more smoothly until i backed down the driveway and turned the wheel, the idle dropped to about 500 and almost stalled. whenever i turn the wheel or turn the fan on the idle drops, even the brake pedal slows the idle. thank you for any help

Probably need a new iac. If it got better after you cleaned it.....that's where you start. Jeff

Why Brake Kleen to clean an intake? That doesn't cut gum and varnish as carb cleaner does. That's an expensive IAC. I would try again with a better cleaner and try to get some in there with the engine running. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Don't know what's going on here, but I posted a REPLY to the original poster about his IACV problem. I'll try again. The IACV system in your car will cause a code to be set if it's faulty. Slide the driver's seat all the way forward and take a look under it. You will see your computer. It's covered with plastic and has a small window covered with a flap. Open the flap and a red LED is there. If it has set codes it will be blinking. The code for the IACV is 14 blinks. You can clear the codes by pulling the #11 fuse in the fuse box under the hood, on the passenger's side. Good luck.
