1989 buick skylark

My car ran hot and i had to change the head and now i can't go more than a few miles before it kills. when it kills i can start it up agian but when i put it in drive it kills agian.Can anyone give me some advise on this?

Maybe plugged exhaust??? Possibly converter?? Maybe torque converter.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
