1989 blazer won't idol

1989 blazer with a 5.7 v8 will not idol. replaced the fuel filter and it idoled perfectly for a few weeks but has started cutting off again. Sometimes when it cuts off it will not fire again for a couple of hours. Also, the fuel guage started reading really high while driving about the same time all the problems started. Worked correctly after I replaced the fuel filter but now all the problems have returned. Any suggestions?

Could this have totally bad or dirty fuel in it? I'd take the fuel filter off again and replace it and dump what comes out into a glass container so you can take a look at it. If bad enough it could have effected the pick up screen in tank and the fuel pump also. This sounds like bad gas. Water in fuel can do this. At the age it could easily have way too much and periodic moisture removing additives should be used. If this is that trashed now you may need to remove the tank and clean it out,
