1989 Chevrolet 1500 truck 305 engine 200,000 + Replaced the throttle position sensor, truck is still stalling when idle. Sometimes hard to start and emits grey smoke when started. I have read up on possibilities, but I was wondering if anyone here might have an idea. Thank you Misha

Does it stall off idle or if you have your foot on the gas? The grey or blue smoke is probably oil burning from worn out valve guide seals. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

So the truck stalls while your driving and at idle? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Off idle means the engine isn't idling. The engine is above idle rpm where the idle air control motor is no longer able to control engine rpm. So you mean the engine only stalls when you don't have your foot on the gas pedal? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

No problem. Just want to make sure. If it only stalls with your foot off the gas pedal, you more than likely have a idle air control system problem. The first thing that you should do is make sure that your battery tests good and that your battery connections are clean and tight. If the battery is weak or has bad connections during cranking it may cause the engine computer to reset idle air control learn. If the battery is good and the connections are clean and tight, remove the idle air control motor and clean any carbon off the pintle and the bore inside the throttle body. Replace the IAC gasket. See if that makes any improvement. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
