I have an 1988 chevy silverado 5.7 that runs great after manually prime starting(splashing gas down venturi)but will not start without manually priming.I just replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, sending unit, and it ran great for a week.I went to start it after sitting a couple of days and it would'nt start.Just to be safe I replaced the fuel pump relay on the firewall. It will run great all day ,but if you shut it off it will not start without priming manually inside the air cleaner lid.A mechanic told me that if it runs great after manually priming it must be electrical (sensor, computer). The automotive parts store said they could only put their analyzer on 1996 and later models.I was told to short the under dash computer plug to have the engine light flash codes ,but I wouldn't know what they meant unless I had a code chart or something of that nature.I was also told that the computer has a start circuit that holds the injector open while cranking until the motor starts but still don't know how to remedy that if it is the problem.

I would suggest taking it to a shop that has the right equiptment to find the problem, or you could wind up spending money for parts that wasn't needed, the info about the ecm holding the injector open during the starting is correct, it could be the computer but without testing its a gamble.
