1987 Mercedes560SEL not getting gas

Our very dependable 1987 560 SEL turns over just fine, but wont start. If we put gas in the carb. it will start and run until that gas is used (a few seconds). The parts told us there is only one relay that is $270.00. And they couldnt tell me where it is. Can anyone help with suggestions. also we went ahead and replaced all of the visible fuses in the fuse box with new ones . Thank You in adavance for any help.

You first need to do a little diagnostic work. You need to determine if power is arriving at the fuel pump when the engine is cranking using a testlight.
Once we know that, we will know what the next step will be.
