I have a 1987 GMC Safari with 4.3 engine that idles too fast.Replaced the idle control valve without any change. Any ideas what I could try next? Thank you Roger

Look for air leaks somewhere. The vacuum is controlled by metering air flow into the engine. If it's getting unmetered air from anywhere, it can control the idle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Can you post the IAC counts, and is it possible for you to take a photo of the data stream while the engine is at high idle and post the picture? Disabled live link

Look down inside the throttle body for any sign of the gasket being sucked in and causing the air leak that the ECM is trying to compensate for. It is a fairly simple and inexpensive DIY project.
