My daughter's car starting leaking oil extremely bad. We thought it was the rear main, but a mechanic told us it was leaking from the oil pan. We replaced the oil pan gasket and now it is leaking from a tube that comes off of the block. Any ideas what this tube is and why it would be leaking oil? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is this the dipstick tube? Can you determine what this tube is for orconnected to for more help. Hard to guess without more info, T

No, this isn't the dipstick tube. It is located on the underside of the engine block.

Transmission cooling lines may run by there or perhaps PS lines but those shouldn't run there. Check by color what type of oil you notice with white paper. Trans is pink/red -- check trans fluid, engine oil and see if low. I wouldn't wait so figure this out fast before a real problem happens, T

We know what different fluids look like, my husband is a fairly decent mechanic/body man. He is currently restoring a 1967 Chevy pickup. I was raised with three brothers and a dad who worked on cars all the time, so I know quite a bit about vehicles myself. Plus, this was leaking oil in the first place, that is why he changed the oil pan gasket on the advice of a mechanic. Since we do know quite a bit about vehicles, we are baffled by what this tube is. We have never seen one on an engine before. We are not driving the vehicle until we figure out the problem.
