I just acquired a 1984 Chevy K10 from my dad. The truck has been sitting idle for three years. The engine ( 350 w/4 bbl. carb.) and trans came from a truck that had been damaged in a wreck. The recipient truck was a complete body, minus the engine and trans. The mechanic that was doing the transfer became sick and died suddenly. The truck sat behind the barn until I decided to try and finish it. Now that you have the history, I've replaced the battery, starter, plugs, and plug wires. I've gotten the truck to start, which is does fairly easily, but it won't idle correctly. Upon further investigation, I've found several vacuum lines that are disconnected, and I have no idea where they belong. I believe that the engine is flooding because the choke is sticking. If you can't tell, I'm just a hobby mechanic, with basic knowledge of the truck and its systems. I need help. If you think you can help, I can provide any information you require. Thanks for your time.

How old is the gas in the tank? I would go through a vacuum routing diagram and follow the hoses one by one. That should help you find where the hoses should go. This could have hoses meant for things like cruise control that you may or may not have on your truck. So once you get the lines figured out be sure to cap off any unused vacuum ports. A vacuum leak is a sure fire way to get poor idle quality. A sticking choke won't be doing you any favors either. As this has sat for some time now, I would also recommend before driving it that you check over the brakes closely. Make sure the calipers and slides move properly, along with the rear wheel cylinders. It would be a shame to get the truck running well only to have it damaged from a crash. Good luck with the truck. Let us know what you find
