I have a 1980 Honda Accord 5 speed that stalls out after warming up. It has a new alternator, I have had both the alternator and battery checked, both are fine. I also changer the regulator. I've put on new plugs and a new rotor and distributor cap. I've had the car for a few years and have never had a problem. It's a "hard-start" when it's warm, taking a few pumps on the gas to get it to crank over. Always kicks right over when cold. One other thing I noticed is with the lights off, the car will idle down, but not stall. As soon as you hit the lights, it stalls out.

Egad! That's an oldie!

Ok: Carb idle should use some kind of idle control either vacuum or electrically controlled to help with stalling. See what is there for idle speed adjustment or what type device it rests on - dunno from here and may be unique as back then cars were different for export, California or federal emissions.

The hot start thing if it's starved for fuel may be fuel evaporating out of carb from engine heat. May have to put up with some of that. Fuels today may be the issue and more volatile then what was available for 1980,

Thanks Tom, I'll check that. Yes, she is an oldie, but a goodie. No computers. 33 mpg, and runs like a rabbit. I'll check the idle and let you know if it worked.

I "think" I found the problem. There is a vacuum hose running out of the bottom of the carb up to a breather fitting attached to the bottom of the air filter housing. It's a circular "cup" that also has the manifold breather hose connected to it. That small vacuum hose was full of black crust and dust. I cleaned the cup, and replaced the hose. The problem is fixed.
