1978 chevy tempature sending unit

took out a 250 cu. in. enginethat had 2 sending units on the same wire (the guage worked) put in a 350 cu.in. with one sending unit (guage does not work) . tempature guage cheks good would that specific guage need 2 in-line sending units?

What do you mean by "2 sending units on the same wire"? That is not done.

I don't understand it either. The wire from the guage goes to the first sending unit and clips on, comes back out of the same clip and goes to the second sending unit. (on the 250) I did not put the 350 in the truck, but the mechanic that did is scratching his head too. I know the 250 was original, I bought the truck new in 1978. Hope you can help, the 350 wasn't cheep.

No, nothing is intentionally wired that way. The computer can only read one sensor per circuit.

no computer on a 1978 chevy truck. what about putting another sending unit in another port and wiring the same way. maybe the guage needs a stronger ground ?

There is no way for 2 sensors to be read or monitored on the same wire. It has to be something else or for some other purpose.
