1972 f-100 Sign In

have a 1972 ford f-100 302 v8 it has been running very rough, i have place new distr, points, cond, coil, and it will start idle for about ten minutes die and then will not start. it will try to start then back fire through the carb. i lost on what to do. any help would be great thank you

burlee; Sounds as though the choke may be masking a vacuum leak? When the engine is cold, the choke is partially closed, causing a rich condition. As the engine warms, the choke opens. If you have a vacuum leak, it creates a lean condition which will cause a backfire. Check all vacuum connections. Check the EGR valve (could be stuck open via carbon?) Make sure your point dwell is 30 degrees and timing set to specs.
