1968 Volkswagon beetle

I have a 1968 Volkswagen beetle with a 4 cylinder engine. now i am completely confused on this. I can start the car up and i can rev it up and keep it at a steady high idle as long as i am in neutral, however i start driving it and i can get up to the speed limit whether it is 20 to 70 mph. but than i lose all my engine power but everything else keeps power and still have good voltage, and it fights to keep running and sometimes dies if doesn't spurt. However as soon as it dies when i stop i can start it right back up without a problem. Now i have checked any and all fuses and i have replaced my fuel filter, fuel pump and my coil, and i have check all my wires for short. I also have had all the points in the distributor check and replaced three weeks prior. So i must say i am at a complete lose at what could be my problem now. Any Ideas would be very much appreciated. thank you. oh any the engine and tranny are both rebuilt, maybe 6000 to 10000 miles on them.

Could be a bad coil ,check your dwell of the pionts in your distribitor. , http://www.flatratetech.com staff tech Indy Shop owner

Ditto with thte point check. Even newly installed they should be checked for dwell again soon after with an older vehicle especially. The rubbing block can seat in and be all different in no time but should become stabil. Also check what the dwell reads at idle and while just revving it up a bit. It should stay fairly close - I'll say within about 5 degrees or the dist shaft bearings may need replacing. Nice to see Indytech stopping in now and then. How are you? T
