1967 pontiac GTO starter help. Sign In

hey everyone. ive got a problem that i cant figure out. im working on a friends 1967 GTO and the car wont start. wont even make a sound. first off i found the starter cable runs from the battery to the starter. but i noticed that whoever installed a new starter cable some years back ran it through between the exhaust manifold which inturn burnt through the insulation and causing a serious dead short, so i replaced the starter, new starter cable, and replaced the alternator fuse which was blown. i also replaced the battery as well. to make a long story short i turned the key to ignition, found that i had power to headlights, dash ext. i tested the starter with a volt meter and everything checked out. but when i crank it its dead. wont do a thing. i cant figure it out! a friend of mine told me he thought that maybe it could be the manual safety switch. is this true? if so what does this switch do and where is it usually located? what else could have been destroyed due to the dead short it had that would prevent the car from even cranking? any other suggestions? thanks.

You have replaced everything i would have told you to replace. The only thing i can think of is the solenoid. But if you have replaced the entire starter, the solenoid should be pulling. As for the safety switch, i have found nothing in the way of it. Make sure your battery cable is connected securely to the solenoid blade terminal. If there is power going to the starter, and you dont even get a click, i am 100% positive its a solenoid problem.
