2005 Durango with a 5.7 Hemi with 91,000 mil s will start and immediately cut-off. Trying to re-start without turning the key OFF results in endless cranking. I turn it OFF then I can re-start the car and it immediately cuts off - UNLESS I can quickly jerk the transmission in gear - reverse or drive. Then everything is normal. Sometimes I can rev the engine to 4000 to 5000 RPM and it will not cut off. It doesn't matter if I start it in Park or Neutral. At first I thought it was the ignition switch having run into something similar on another car. I have pretty well eliminated that by twisting and wiggling the key with the car running and nothing happens. There are no codes nor pending codes. Has anyone ever seen this on any vehicle. I need some help/advice.

Sounds like an immobilizer issue. Do you have any security messages or lights coming on when you try to start it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The lady finally found her owner's manual, and it is something to do with the immobilizer. There is one very small red light (not labeled) on the top right corner of the inst panel that was intermittently on and sometimes blinking. What was so strange is that if we could jerk in in gear (really good for the transmission) very quickly, the car ran with no problems - BUT don't cut it off to pop into the convenience store. I'm wondering now if the door lock is linked to the security system, because her remote does not work, and worse yet, the key will not turn the door lock. This car has only ONE lock. Driver's door. *&%#^# Chrysler. That has to be one of the worst ideas. Do you know of a work-around to bypass this security device on Durango? Thanks for the feedback.
