03 F 150 valve train noise

I have an 03 F 150 4.6l with 119000 miles on it. I have valve train noise coming from the right cylinder head. The noise is very loud when cold and diminishes as the engine warms up. I have replaced the timing chains, guides and tensioners. Guides were broke and chains were streched. I then replaced all the lifters on the right side of the engine. Noise is still there. Oil pressure is good, 5-20 oil.

cam phasers on these are known for issues. They call that noise the Triton tick.

No cam phaser on this engine.

They had a 4.0 Explorer in my shop with the same symptoms and they did about the same amount of stuff to it. In the end it turned out to be a piston slapping around the cylinder wall. You could push it back and forth with the head off and duplicate the noise.

It doesnt have that sound to it. It sounds like multiple rockers making noise on the top end until the oil pressure increases. Thanks for the info though I will check further to insure that is not the noise.

Believe me, they put new lifters in this one too thinking that was the problem. It sounded like rocker noise.

Ok, I will look further into it. It just drives me nuts, its not like the old school stuff Im used to. Thanks man.
