You should be able to determine that with a vacuum gauge.

Re: 02 hevy pickup Sign In

Well. Then get yourself a vacuum gauge or better yet get a pistol type that both reads vacuum and you can pump it by hand to check vacuum operated devices on things. How could you live without one and fix anything?

Find actual intake manifold vacuum source - primal for knowing what's up or what adjustment will be made under what conditions of it. Put gauge on a "T" so whatever device that line goes to still gets the info.

If all was right you would read about 18 +/- (in Hg) of vacuum just idling and see spikes over 20 if just snap revved up. Now just look at idle vacuum and raise idle without load to 2,000 or a bit more and both should be dang near the same. If it plummets at the raised idle that's highly indicative of an exhaust restriction but doesn't tell you what just that engine isn't getting a free and clear path to exhaust itself. Without a bent up exhaust system or all messed up in some other way the converter(s) are subject to plugging up and you can go on to verify that in other assorted tests.

In that it's misfiring results are going to be funky and a bouncing needle or reading but telling of what the engine is seeing and making adjustments by that on a 2002 model anything,

T

Re: 02 hevy pickup Sign In

I do have a pistol grip vacuum pump and i use it quite bit but checking for restrictions heard about it but never did it that way but did the test results at idle 17 in but did have its spikes on the gauge at 1000 rpms but anyways tapped on the cat all broke up inside then found out the customer was putting E85 in it replacing cats

Re: 02 hevy pickup Sign In

It might be the 5.3L Z engine. Which has a flex fuel system.

Re: 02 hevy pickup Sign In

Exhaust restriction or hung O2 sensor would have been the first thing to check if you have just one bank misfiring. I'm surprised camshaft, injectors, coils, etc. were replaced.
