Sign In 2002 Ford Taurus SES 144,000 miles My emission systems light, which is also my check engine light, came on the other day. The car was acting normal & driving fine. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts to have it scanned & diagnosed. They said that it was a misfire on cylinder 1 & I bought a new BWD ignition coil & had it replaced. My engine light remained on after installing the new coil. I called the store back & asked if that was normal or if something else was wrong. The guy said that it is normal for it to stay on for a bit & that the light should turn off after about 20 start ups & a few good drives... Just so I have peace of mind, is it true that it should stay on for that long before going off, or do I need to have it checked again for something else?? Sign In I couldn't tell that it was misfiring in the first place. It was starting/driving/acting normal & the light just came on. What am I supposed to look for to know if it's misfiring or not? Sign In The engine computer identified a misfire that should have been very noticeable. If you didn't know it was misfiring in the first place, you can't know if it's fixed or not.
